Welcome Summer Series: New York City

As summer draws to a close, this will be the last of our series... but keep the ideas coming so we can bring it back next year!!
NEW YORK CITY: Now of course there is MUCH to do in New York... and there is definitely something for everyone... but this week we're planning a girl's weekend or couple get-away. I Love NY:

Where to stay: These are a little more, but well worth it!
Vincci Avalon - European-style boutique hotel, minutes from the Empire State Building, Penn Station, Herald Square shopping, and the heart of Manhattan's business district.
The Muse Hotel, chic, urban oasis in the theatre district within walking distance to midtown including Times Square, Broadway, Radio City Music Hall, Rockefeller Center, and Fifth Avenue shopping.
Where NOT to stay: yes, these options are reasonable; but not worth the frustration: Hotel Pennsylvania - conveniently located also across the street from Penn Station and Madison Square Garden, the hotel has been newly renovated within the past few years; but it's STILL an OLD hotel (small bathrooms, hot water has been known not to work... books quickly during the weekend of the Westminster Kennel show, since they allow pets... need we say more??) Milford Plaza also good location, but the rooms are VERY small (the double bed and nightstand take up pretty much the entire room) and have an older, dirty feel... I would recommend taking a sleeping bag rather than using their linens!

FOR FUN:
Unwind upon arrival: Local West: get off the train, head across the street, and enjoy a drink on this outside bar; after all, It's More Fun on a Roof. The website picture is the exact look of the bar, yes there is a view, but mostly just of MSG and the 34th Street post office!
Afternoon in the Park: The Boathouse Central Park: take a break from the city, relax, enjoy a light bite and cocktails overlooking the boats, lake and trees... you could even rent a rowboat or reserve a gondola ride.
Dinner we suggest Little Italy... no specific restaurant, we have stopped at many and every one is better than the last so you can't go wrong!!! Enjoy outdoor dining and the strolling musicians, even take in some Italian shopping.
For a nightcap: View Lounge at the Marriott Marquis: THIS is the place you go to see it all! The only revolving lounge in Manhattan, a great location to enjoy a drink and see the Big Apple at night.

And of course, if you're with the girls, there's shopping, shopping, shopping...
Any favorites of yours?
