Arthritis Fast Facts

May is National Arthritis Month; below are some "fast facts" :

Arthritis literally means joint inflammation. "Arth" refers to the joints, and "itis" refers to inflammation. Arthritis is not a single disease. There are more than 100 different types of arthritis affecting people of all ages, including about 300,000 children.

In 2005, 66 million (nearly 1 in 3) adults in the United States had arthritis or chronic joint symptoms.

42.7 million are doctor-diagnosed arthritis.

23.2 million live with chronic joint symptoms but are not doctor-diagnosed.

Arthritis is the nation's leading cause of disability among Americans over 15 years of age. Generally, arthritis strikes women more often than men.

To learn more, visit the Arthritis Foundation... and please join us as we support AOII's international philanthropy, look out for these events in your area: let's move together and the Jingle Bell Run.

WONDER WORKOUT

I have decided now is the time to get "back on track" with my Workout Routine, but wanted some suggestions... taken from OK! magazine, here are some high-intensity exercises that will have your burning more calories every time...

"- Start with 5 minutes of jumping rope, followed by 5 puch-ups. Follow with 10 more minutes jumping rope and 10 push-ups; then 15 minutes jumping rope and 15 push-ups.
- Jog for 2 minutes, then stop and do 15 squats (with or without added weights.) Repeat the 2-minute jog, then do 15 standing lunges. Repeat this sequence 10 times.
- Do 2 minutes on a rowing machine at high intensity folowed by 2 minutes of jumping jacks. Repeat 15 times."

What do you do to stay in shape?

M-O-T-H-E-R

"M" is for the million things she gave me,
"O" means only that she's growing old,
"T" is for the tears she shed to save me,
"H" is for her heart of purest gold;
"E" is for her eyes, with love-light shining,
"R" means right, and right she'll always be,

Put them all together, they spell "MOTHER,"
A word that means the world to me.

Howard Johnson (c. 1915)

Have a great day, to all you Mothers out there!
