Relay for Life 2010

We have recently discovered that Ship's Relay for Life will be held during our "Alum Weekend"!!! This 12-hour "relay" is held at the Shippensburg University Rec Center beginning at 6 pm Friday April 23rd until 6 am Saturday April 24th. During this time, each organization has at least one team member "walk" the track as their pledge to the American Cancer Society.

AOII has created a team to join in this fight and they could really use our support! To make a donation and help them reach their $1,500 goal, click on: Relay for Life... and those of us in town for the reunion will be sure to stop by during that time to cheer them on!

Mardi Gras

Fat Tuesday is Mardi Gras, the festival New Orleans, Louisiana, is famous for. "Gras" is French for fat and "Mardi" is French for Tuesday.

The annual festivities start on January 6, the Twelfth Night Feast of the Epiphany, when the three kings are supposed to have visited the Christ Child, and build to a climax on Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday, which always occurs on the day before Ash Wednesday. The parties and parades will continue until Lent begins at the stroke of midnight on Tuesday.

Mardi Gras is a legal holiday in New Orleans. It is scheduled to occur 46 days before Easter. Since the actual date Easter occurs on changes yearly, Mardi Gras can happen on any Tuesday between February 3 and March 9. For two centuries it has been an annual event in New Orleans, except during the two World Wars.

That's right... the 2010 WINTER OLYMPICS are here!!! See it all from Vancouver...

HIGHLIGHTS: Ben Mulroney, Tamara Taggart and Fred Ewanuick will host the nightly Victory Ceremonies concerts in Vancouver and Whistler during the 2010 Winter Games.

Nightly concerts include headliners such as All American Rejects, DEVO, Feist, Usher, Our Lady Peace, and The Fray performing. Victory Ceremonies held in Vancouver inside BC Place will feature Nelly Furtado, Barenaked Ladies, Loverboy, and Hedley, performing as part of the VANCOUVER 2010 CONCERT SERIES, PRESENTED BY BELL.

California governor and Hollywood star Arnold Schwarzenegger will be a torchbearer on Friday in the run-up to the 2010 Winter Games Opening Ceremony. He will hand the flame to Sebastian Coe, the head of the London 2012 Olympic Organising Committee, while Canadan singing star Michael Buble will be the final runner on Thursday.

This year New Orleans has even more reason to celebrate with their The 2009 NFL season concluded with another record as Super Bowl XLIV reached a total audience of 153.4 million viewers, making it the most-watched show in U.S. television history according to Nielsen Media Research. The Colts-Saints championship game topped the previous mark of 151.6 million total viewers set last year (Cardinals-Steelers in Super Bowl XLIII). Super Bowls account for the 19 most-watched programs in history in terms of total audience.

In addition, a record average of 106.5 million viewers watched Super Bowl XLIV – topping the previous mark of 106 million for the series finale of M*A*S*H in 1983 and an eight percent increase over last year’s Super Bowl (98.7 million viewers).

Super Bowl XLIV earned a 45.0 household rating marking the highest-rated Super Bowl in 14 years (46.0 rating for Cowboys-Steelers in Super Bowl XXX, January 1996) and a seven percent increase over last year’s 42.0.
